About

Who We Are

We are a small-town church with a big vision. We have been representing the body of Christ here in Ashford, CT from as far back as 1780 in Westford, and 1848 here in the Warrenville section of Ashford. When you come to visit our church, you will find a loving group of people from many towns, backgrounds, age groups, and traditions, all rolled up into one big family- the Family of God! At Living Proof Church, we focus on the Word of God, which is our standard for Christian life, and instruction on how to operate as a church. The Church is the God-anointed vessel that brings the transforming message of Jesus Christ into the lives of people in our community, and to the ends of the earth, through the work of the Holy Spirit, and power of God! We have a real, loving heart for people, and would love to have you come and join us for a Sunday Morning Worship Service, or any of our small group meetings.

Sunday Morning Worship

Our Sunday morning worship service is a time for people to come and worship God together. The focus of this service is to spend time as the Family of God, worshiping the Creator of Heaven and Earth, and giving Him the glory He deserves. Our Sunday Morning Service includes worshiping the Lord through music, spending time seeking the Lord in prayer as we pray for ourselves and the needs of others, and a time of teaching from the Word of God.

What We Believe

  • Affiliation

We are a non-denominational, Bible believing, misions minded church. We believe that the Church is God's ordainded vessel to bring the hope of Jesus to the world!

  • Summary of Fundamental Beliefs

    1. We believe that the sixty-six books of the Bible are the ultimate authority in all matters (All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.  2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT).

    2. We believe that there is only one God and He exists in three parts- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4; Genesis 1:26).

    3. Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, was born of a virgin and is both fully God and fully human (Matthew 1:20; John 1:1-4,14; Colossians 1:15-20; Hebrews 1:1-3).

    4. Jesus died as a substitute to pay the penalty for sin by being crucified and then physically raising from the dead. He ascended into heaven and will one day physically return for his people (John 10:1-18; Romans 5:8; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Matthew 28:1-20; Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16; Revelation 1:7).

    5. When Jesus left the earth, he sent the Holy Spirit to help, comfort, assure, and dwell within those who trust Jesus for salvation. The Holy Spirit is fully God and testifies that Jesus is Lord. He helps believers understand the Scriptures and empowers them to live the Christian life (John 14:25-29; Romans 8:9-16; Acts 5:3-4; John 15:26; Ephesians 1:17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Acts 1:8).

    6. Everyone is a sinner. The deserved penalty for sin is death, both physical and spiritual. Sin separates man from God (Genesis 6:5; Psalm 51:5; Jeremiah 17:9; Romans 3:23, 5:8, 5:12-21, 7:18).

    7. Only by trusting in the person and work of Jesus Christ alone can a person be reconciled to God and experience true life and joy (John 3:16-18; Acts 4:12; Romans 3:21-26).

    8. There will be a future physical resurrection of the dead. Those who trust in Jesus Christ alone will be raised to be with God forever and be eternally rewarded by him. Those who have not trusted in Jesus will be raised to eternal punishment (Matthew 25:31-46; John 5:28-29; Acts 24:15).

    9. As believers in Jesus Christ, we believe in baptism by immersion as a public demonstration that we have died to our old lives and now live as a new creation for Christ (Acts 19:4-5; Romans 6:1-7; 1 Peter 3:21-22; 2 Corinthians 5:17).

    10. The Church is the universal and local group of people Jesus has called out of the world to be his own. It is the Body of Christ acting as Jesus’ hands and feet here on earth, the Bride of Christ,  bought with a price and the household of Christ, a place where believers are to love one another, show hospitality, serve each other, make allowance for one another’s faults, hold each other accountable for living a Godly life, and receive healing (Matthew 16:13-19; Romans 12:3-8; Ephesians 5:25-27; Revelation 21; 1 Peter 4:8-10; Colossians 3:12-17; Galatians 6:1; James 5:14-20).

  • Brief History

On Sunday March 16, 2014 the members of United Baptist Church of Ashford voted to change our name to Living Proof Church. Why change the name?  The name of a church is important; it communicates the heart, the direction and the flavor of a church. Over the course of time, churches change their names and ours is no exception. In 1848 our church was planted as the South Center Baptist Church; in 1926 its name was changed to the Warrenville Baptist Church; and in 1993 it joined together with the Ashford Baptist Church (est. 1780) and was renamed as the United Baptist Church of Ashford. Over the course of time a church might change its name to reflect a location (South Center and Warrenville), to reflect an agreement (United Baptist Church of Ashford), or it might change its name to reflect its direction (Living Proof Church).

Today our heart is that we would "Help People Discover the Love of God. Jesus described one of the primary ways this would happen in John 13:34-35 when He said, "So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.  Although we are in no way claiming to be perfect, we do believe that experiencing the lives of true Christians will be Living Proof of the love of God and His desire to rescue lives. Our new name reflects our heart- that we would love each other as Jesus loved us, and that it would be evident that His love is in us and changing us. Many of us have a past that we are not proud of; we lived in a way that was far from God or in rebellion to God. Although we are not perfect, we are grateful that God redeemed us by sending Jesus to pay the cost of our sin and offer us forgiveness.

Living Proof isn't a place full of perfect people; it's a place for sinners to find a perfect God. We want to invite you to come and join us! Even if you have never been to church before, come give it a try. If you have been here in the past but either got away from it or decided it wasn't for you, then we invite you to join us again for the first time, because we are a new church!  You might not recognize us. We are a new people and many of our members are new to us. We look different too; we are just finishing a renovation of our Sanctuary, something that hasn't been done in over 60 years. We also have a different style. We don't follow a checklist of traditional rituals. We come together to worship God from our heart and learn from His Word.  We would love you to come and give us a try. We believe there is nothing better than the joy of knowing the Lord and worshiping together in love. We have room for you, so come discover what God is doing in Living Proof Church!
